More Money Than Sense

In the most recent twist to what appears to be a never ending saga gone wrong, Hollywood elites are now tweeting, organizing and donating to something called the Minnesota Freedom Fund:  “Please also consider giving what you can to the Minnesota Freedom Fund (@MNFreedomFund), they’re combatting the harms of incarceration by paying bail for low-income individuals who cannot otherwise afford it.” ~ Mark Ruffalo

First of all, I did a search on the Minnesota Freedom Fund.  It is, in fact, a nonprofit organization that was founded long before the “riots” began, long before George Floyd was killed, long before COVID-19.  The Minnesota Freedom Fund’s mission statement reads as follows:

The Minnesota Freedom Fund pays criminal bail and immigration bond for those who cannot afford to as we seek to end discriminatory, coercive, and oppressive jailing.

It further states:

Minnesota Freedom Fund – Criminal Bail Fund

The Minnesota Freedom Fund is a community-based nonprofit that combats the harms of incarceration by paying bail for low-income individuals who cannot otherwise afford it. We oppose “pay-to-play” justice and believe that our work has the potential to catalyze substantive criminal justice reform.

Immigration Bond Fund

Four days a week folks who are detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are brought before the court. Many who are facing return to their country of origin ask for nothing more than the opportunity to cash their paychecks, sell their cars, and put their affairs in order before departure. Others request the opportunity to gain asylum here in the US as a result of their extended residence, threat of harm if they return to their country of origin, or a handful of other reasons.

But for both of these groups there is a significant obstacle they face, the price of cash bail. (MFF,2020)

My first problem with this is that as it reads (to me), this organization was established to help those who are here illegally (which I do not agree with, but I can understand) trying to make their way in this country and are rounded up simply because they are here illegally.  But this well-meaning organization has now morphed into a bankroll for the criminally engaged; those people who claim to be grieving for a man they never met and are soothing their grief by entering stores illegally and taking anything their arms can carry home in their own version of attempting to make their world a better place.

Having never set foot in Hollywood much less being on a first name basis with anyone who lives there, I can only imagine that these extraordinarily high paid individuals who have come to be called “Movie Stars” have now reach a point where their otherwise invisible heart strings have been plucked and they are shelling out tax deductible donations in the hope of righting some wrong for mankind.

Speaking for the everyday folks in the world who had to work every single day to earn what you pay your cleaning lady – You are clueless! What’s more, you are immersed sufficiently in narcissism that you no longer (if you ever did) give a shit about the working man in your own country that you are bankrolling every criminal (YES CRIMINAL) to be set free and wreak havoc yet again in the name of philanthropy.

I have a two-part solution, however, to these seemingly ridiculous crossroads in our thinking.  Take your money – bail out the criminals and ship them to Hollywood!  That’s right.  You each have homes in excess of 2500 square feet and hired help to boot.  Upon release take these downtrodden individuals whom you have taken pity on (MORE SO THAN THE 1000s of HOMELESS YOU DRIVE PAST IN LOS ANGELES EACH DAY) and bring them to your home to rehabilitate them into whatever you think society should be.  You obviously are so far removed from ordinary life that you have no idea what you are inflicting upon the rest of us; you know, the little people who cannot afford to rebuild after these unfortunates have destroyed everything they have worked for in their lives in the supposed name of justice.  The second part of this is – throw that same amount of money at those store owners whose livelihoods have been ripped from them for no other reason than the laziness and greed of others and rebuild their lives.

Please do not tell me or even suggest that you care about the criminals but not the business owners of these shops! Are you fucking kidding me?

Great job Ellen! They are hypocrites who live in gated mansions with 24 hour security. From their mansions they love to tell “us folks” how morally and ethically corrupt we are. If you are interested listen or read Shelby Steele. He is an African American author who explains that many suffer from what he calls White Guilt.
