It is the end of the school year although it doesn’t much feel like it.  For most, school came to a screeching halt in March.  It has been one long spring break into summer.  I would like to address the upcoming Senior Class of 2021.

This is not about a pandemic.  It is not about your college plans.  It is about your upcoming selection for Senior Class President.

Yes, I am serious.  Senior Class President is a critical role.  This is the person who is going to manage your entire future as a class, your reunions, your communications.  He/she will be the very glue that holds you and your memories together.  They need to be organized.  They need to be all inclusive.  They need to be fair minded and friendly.  Mostly, they need to have a love for your class and memories that they will act as the guardian of your class from this point forward.

This is nothing to take lightly.  Just because they are popular, or cute, or a good athlete…that’s not what matters here.  What matters is are they going to hold your class together for all of time?  If the answer to that question is YES, that is your candidate.

I cannot impress upon you enough how valuable my own class President and student council members have been in keeping the spirit of our class alive.  We have reunions, get-togethers, and communications of all sorts to announce both the good and the bad.  It is a responsibility that they have truly taken to heart.  Our class has been attentively guarded and protected from extinction because we have the right people in those positions and they all do their utmost to see every occasion, every reunion through to total success.

Should you be fortunate enough to live to the ripe old age of 68, you will be attending your 50th high school reunion.  Do not lose that chance to remain connected to your classmates because you voted in haste.  Choose wisely.  Class of 2021 is yours forever!
