Death doesn’t take prisoners. It comes for everyone. Death ignores finances, schedules, athletic ability, popularity, and even age. It enters your life as judge and jury and decides independently when your time is up. No discussion – no bartering.
Death is a milestone. It marks the end of a person’s time here on earth. It also significantly marks the lives of those around the deceased. I didn’t even know John F Kennedy, but I will forever remember where I was the day he died. It is the eternal asterisk in one’s timeline.
For those who have received the ominous diagnosis which usually includes, “go home and get your affairs in order,” that next period is sacred and should be treated as such. The umbrella of death covers every thought, every conversation, every sentence. You suddenly realize that you have absolutely no time for nonsense and that you are racing against the clock to say what needs to be said as well as heard by your loved ones. It is most definitely not about settling scores but instead all about making amends. In a sense, you are emptying your heart.
As with anything you give, you get back exponentially. So, to deliberately give love to those in your life who have shared it with you benefits everyone. The irony is – we are all dying every single day. Each day lived brings us one step closer to departure. Yet, we proceed through our days denying our mortality and making light of what could in an instant become the most pivotal moment of all.
If you are fortunate enough to know when your time is nigh, seize that moment and share from your heart what is deepest. Share your love. Deny no one. Most of all – do not deny yourself. Be the bartender; fill their glasses and give a knock. Everyone deserves a buy-back.

Terrific!
Thanks for reading Ann!
I just wanted you to know that late night you spent in the parking lot with me and Momma meant the world to me. You did not want us to be alone as we waited in the dark. We enjoyed the laughter and stories. Then when your son got there and miraculously started her car and did not take payment, only shows how wonderful you are and you raised great children.
Momma would agree with me.
Thank you,
Teri
